The catch is that a botched angle correction in a real deliverable costs you a re-export, a client email, and the quiet embarrassment of delivering something slightly crooked. Thirty minutes of dry runs eliminates all three. I have seen editors burn an entire afternoon fixing one image that would have taken five minutes if they had simply run the sequence once beforehand—not since they were careless, but as they almost never built the muscle memory.
Set up a keyboard shortcut to toggle the grid
The grid is your cheap, always-on spirit level. Yet most people leave it buried under a menu given they never bother to bind it. Do that now. In Photoshop, that's Ctrl+' by default, but if your muscle memory doesn't own it, remap it to something you will actually hit—I use Ctrl+G because G is the move aid in my brain, and the proximity forces me to check alignment every few seconds.
The grid doesn't lie. Your eye will accept a 1.2-degree tilt as "close enough" until the grid slices through it and screams otherwise. Toggle it on prior you rotate, toggle it on after you crop, and toggle it on one last time before you export. That last check is the one that catches the 0.3-degree drift that nobody notices until the print arrives.
The habit is the fix. Not the tool, not the technique—the repeated order of operations that makes straight edges automatic.
